What to do when I get a positive pregnancy test?

“Was your pregnancy test positive?” I asked her as we were chit-chatting about pregnancy test results.

One of the happiest times of a mother, or any woman, is when she realizes that her pregnancy test results indicate “PREGNANCY TEST POSITIVE”. Emotions run high especially after confirming that you are really pregnant, and you have a new life ahead of you. “What do I do?” “What name will I give my baby?” “How will I decorate my baby’s room?” are some of the questions pregnant women ask.

If your pregnancy test was positive, I recommend these five must do things…

1) Inform the father

A pregnancy is not a joke, and definitely you need someone to offer you emotional support. The father may be your loving husband or boyfriend. Your body is set for tremendous changes over the next nine months. The father’s life is about to change too because he must take up more responsibilities.

I recommend that you inform the father about this very special happening in person. In case the father is not available, you should find a close friend because you will have a difficult period going through the pregnancy solo.

2) Jump, shout, or cry

The objective here is to relieve anxiety and keep calm. Getting a “pregnancy test positive” result is one of the biggest moments in a woman’s life. A pregnancy is an indication you will have a new family or it will impact a lot on the family you already have.

Regardless of whether you dreamt of this moment for years, or never expected it at all heightens your emotions. If you like crying, cry your emotions out. If you are not the crying type, shout to the highest of your voice. However, do not just through the window. Just do what makes you relieved and within the limits of your safety.

3) Hide the news from anyone else

It would be wise to keep the big news a top secret until after some weeks when you have visited the doctor. It’s disheartening to tell the news to everyone only to find out your pregnancy is not viable. It is good to be sure that your pregnancy is viable before breaking the news to your family and friends. It is hard to keep the news a secret and the strongest reap the benefits of keeping silent.

4) Schedule a doctor’s appointment

You may be surprised that the doctor will see you after five or seven weeks of pregnancy. It does not hurt to book a doctor’s appointment immediately after you get a positive pregnancy test. If you do not know a doctor, ask for referrals from your friends.

5) Purchase a pregnancy health book

Like it or not, the pregnancy will change your body and lifestyle. A good pregnancy health book will inform you whether the changes you are experiencing are normal. It will direct on what you should or should not do. You can always reference the book to have ideas of what to expect and when.

If you do these things, you will have a happy and healthy pregnancy time.
